Kingston/ RANEPA: the new life of the famous MBA and EMBA brand

The "new normality" forces business and business education to change. Margarita Perepelitsa, its dean, tells about the search for answers to new challenges that business education leaders are undertaking, such as the School of International MBA Programs of the RANEPA Faculty of Economics.
-The Kingston/RANEPA MBA&EMBA programs have been the leaders of the National Rating for many years, and everyone is used to this brand. Meanwhile, during this time, the name of the business school has been periodically changed due to organizational reforms in the structure of the RANEPA. Initially, it was part of the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences, then the Faculty of International Programs of the Institute of Social Sciences, recently positioned as the Center of International Programs of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. What is the status of the school now?
- You are right, since 2014 our Programs have been involved in the process of structural and organizational reforms at RANEPA, but these years have given us additional values, because it was then that we created and launched the Russian-language EMBA and Advanced Management programs. This process began with the first final of the "Leaders of Russia" Contest in 2018. And for four years our EMBA program in Russian has gained credibility in a very competitive market of similar programs. I think this is trust in us, in the well-known brand Kingston/RANEPA.

In the summer of this year, with the status of the Center for International MBA Programs, we became part of one of the best faculties of RANEPA, known under the FSN brand. I have great hopes and plans associated with this alliance, which I will be ready to tell you about later.
- It is obvious that due to the suspension in 2022 of cooperation with #Kingston University London and RANEPA, recruitment for the programs  MBA   and in English is not carried out. Nevertheless, the experience gained over the years of cooperation with one of the leading British universities is certainly being implemented in the MBA and EMBA programs in Russian. I would like to know in more detail how and in which part.
- The content of the Programs implemented today contains all the best that we have accumulated over more than 25 years of experience in cooperation with Kingston. Just think, we started back in 1996 with a small project "Future Managers for Russia", and over the years we have created 7 successful Programs with Kingston University. Among them are EMBA corporate programs for Sberbank, EuroChem, Takeda, etc.

Currently, we are implementing this wonderful experience in the Russian-language programs of EMBA, HR Academy of the Future together with the consulting company B1 (formerly EY in Russia) and Advanced Management. Including in the main areas, such as real cases of real companies, full immersion in consulting projects on the problems of medium and small businesses, speeches by top officials of companies as speakers of master classes, regular field internships and career consultations. Continuous work with personal efficiency and leadership runs through the entire learning process. Previously, students of the programs went on internships in the UK, Japan, Singapore. Now, due to the geopolitical situation, the emphasis is shifting towards new directions, but the intensity and scale of projects have not changed, as has the interest of our audience in them.

So, in September of this year, our students visited Malaysia, for the first time we tested a new format of business internship - an active learning process and familiarization with the activities of development institutes in Malaysia was combined with a parallel individual program of participants. The departure took place with the support of the Trade Representative of Russia in Malaysia and personally the wonderful Trade Representative of Russia in Malaysia Nikita Ponomarenko.

With the assistance of the Trade Mission, our group traveled almost across the country, visiting leading industrial enterprises, studying logistics hubs, getting acquainted with the digital infrastructure of the largest port of Johor.

Despite the development of traditional international projects for us, we do not forget about Russian locations, and at the highest level. In July, at the invitation of the Governor of the Samara region personally, our guys visited the enterprises "LADA FLEX", "AvtoVAZ", RCC "Progress" and were shocked by the level of development and, most importantly, the introduction of innovative technologies in such industries as space, the automotive industry, the production of industrial fans. A great impression was also made by the well-coordinated work of the governor Dmitry Azarov's team, active involvement in all processes, including the development of young managers, participants of the Leaders of Russia contest and not only. Such internships are always a mutual exchange of experience, qualitative strengthening of ties.
- What is the program portfolio and the school's plan for the spring enrollment of 2023? What innovations will new students of your business school programs see?
- We had no time to adapt to the VUCA  environment and get our first experience of living in a world of uncertainty and chaos, when we got into the world of  BANI  (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) with its unpredictability and non-linearity. This new normality makes everything change, and we ourselves are no exception. The changes have already significantly affected global companies, logistics chains and personal communications. This puts leaders in a constant search for new answers and responses to challenges. And we are expected to participate more and more in solving global problems of sustainable development. And, no matter how pathetic it may sound, the ESG agenda requires a new management model from a human cog to a creative person, and our task in this sense is to learn in a new way ourselves and teach our listeners.

We will propose a Program, the core of which will be the words and content of Doing business in...different countries. We will work on reorienting thinking and strategy towards cooperation and the creation of joint projects with the countries of Asia, the Middle East, etc.  We will focus on our flagship programs - EMBA, Advanced Management, HR Academy of the Future - these are the successors of our best international programs Kingston-RANEPA.

We are currently preparing a very interesting international educational project, the working language is English. While I can't say more, I will note one thing that this will be the first business education program for top managers and business owners of this country in Russia.

The design of the programs will change, there will be many opportunities to personalize the program track. Here I absolutely agree with Denis Konanchuk, Director of the Corporate Training Department at the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, who noted that "we design not only content, but also energy flow."   We approached this in a pandemic, realized the importance not only of content, but also of accompanying values - attention to the resource state of people, solving the problem of "burnout" and the discovery of new energy sources. Our task is to explore the areas of interaction between psychology and business in the broadest sense.

A place of strength for our new listeners will be Business workshops, where leaders and top managers will share the latest experience born of a new reality, problems and

Decisions here and now. In the new design of the programs, a lot of time will be devoted to visits to domestic companies in different regions of the country, which successfully pass the path of pioneers on the difficult path of scientific research, the introduction of innovations in daily business processes.

And, of course, we plan a lot of social activity, club meetings, discussions and art workshops, personal consultations, new formats in which communication gives an impetus to creativity and, as a result, new innovative, advanced projects.

The purpose of training in our Programs will also change. And here I again agree with Denis Konanchuk that education ceases to be only new knowledge. Time dictates a change of priorities and, indeed, Communication, Reflection and Thinking come to the fore, which help to maintain stability and flexibility in conditions beyond the control of comprehension and forecasting.
